First Day of Trout Season April 6, 2024 |
|||||||||||
On Saturday April 6, 2023, twenty two SONS of Lake Erie Volunteers joined with staff from PI State Park at Waterworks Pond to help kids fish for trout. There were about 25 young anglers participating. The program was conducted on the floating fishing platform located in the east Waterworks pond which was reserved for the kids and the handicapped on that day. Most of the kids were accompanied by a parent or grandparent. Bait and tackle were provided free of charge. We have been part of this event for more than 25 years. It’s always fun and marks the beginning what looks like a busy season. There were a lot of trout caught this year as well as you can see from the photos. Thanks to Environmental Educator, Ray Bierbower who organized the event and provided the equipment. Both Waterworks Ponds on Presque Isle were lined on all sides. with fishermen. The ponds were stocked with hundreds of brown trout by PFBC and by Ray Bierbower and other Environmental Educators with trout that were raised in the Aquaponics Lab at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center.
